About Alabama A&M University

In 1875, Alabama A&M University opened, having only 61 students and two teachers. It had its name changed several times during the years, and in 1969 the current name was settled. The university campus was purchased in 1891, spreading across over 180.000 acres. By 1890, the university attracted more students, and around 300 youngsters filled the corridors. The full name of the university is Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, but it's better known as AAMU or Alabama A&M University. Over the years, it grew into a renowned educational facility, attended by over 6000 students.
